📍 Mani
Greece · Southern Peloponnese
The middle of the three peninsulas hanging off the southern Peloponnese — wild, rocky and unyielding, with stone tower-houses, Byzantine chapels, sea caves and the southernmost tip of mainland Greece.
🗓️ Best time to go
May–June and September–early October: warm sea without the heatwave or the crowds, and ideal for the hikes. July–August gets brutally hot in the bare, rocky Inner Mani.
🚆 Getting around
A car is essential — there's almost no public transport and the roads are winding (though distances are short). Gateways: Kalamata from the west, Gythio/Sparti from the east. Loop route: Kalamata → Kardamyli → Stoupa → Areopoli → Diros → Cape Tainaron → Kotronas → Gythio.
