Akoofy

Akoofy is a platform for mini audiobooks covering history, science, biographies, ideas, and more. Greek-first (akoofy.gr), it turns any topic worth learning into a short, well-crafted audio story you can finish on a commute. I designed and built the full stack, from the content pipeline to the web app.

• Instant Search: Powered by Algolia for typo-tolerant, highlighted results as you type.
• Categories & Curated Collections: Browse by History, Politics, Economics & Business, Biographies, Science, Society & Culture, Psychology & Growth, and Ideas & Philosophy.
• Narrated Audio: Every audiobook is narrated with realistic AI voices today, with human narration planned, and word-level timestamps power live subtitles and transcripts.
• Sample Playback: A persistent player lets listeners preview any book before committing, surviving navigation across the site.
• Personal Library: Signed-in users can save books, track listening progress, and resume across devices.
• Bilingual: Full Greek and English editions, each book linked to its translation.
• Accessible by Design: Built to WCAG 2.2 AA — full keyboard navigation, screen-reader labels, transcripts and subtitles for every audio, and both dark and light themes.

Technologies Used

• Next.js: App Router frontend serving both akoofy.gr and akoofy.com.
• Supabase: Postgres, authentication, and row-level security.
• Cloudflare R2: Zero-egress audio storage and delivery.
• Algolia: Instant, typo-tolerant search.
• Gemini TTS: AI narration with forced-alignment word timestamps powering live subtitles.
• Tailwind CSS & shadcn/ui: Accessible, consistent design system.
